Obtaining your initial GPS fix on your N95

Published by ShReYaS at 8:00 pm under Mobile

A good couple of people have been asking for assistance with getting a satellite fix on the integrated GPS feature on their Nokia N95 Phone. It does take a while for the initial fix but this is only for the initial fix. Once you’ve got your initial fix, getting a new fix from a warm start is almost instantaneous, and getting a fix from a clod start takes about 10 to 20 seconds. Here’s what to do to get your initial fix:

-On the N95’s menu navigate to Satellite Status. It’s in Tools > GPS Data > Navigation > Options > Satellite Status.
-Then open the alphanumeric keypad and prop the phone up at a 45 degree angle on a windowsill.
-Check it every 5 minutes or so and eventually it will get a connection.

Once you’ve got your initial fix, it shouldn’t be a problem getting subsequent fixes.
